OWEN Coyle bemoaned more calamitous defending as his side suffered a second-successive Championship defeat.
The Clarets prop up the table after conceding seven goals in two games, and, although there was bad luck involved in shipping three against Ipswich, he was in no doubt what cost Burnley.
He was in no mood to blame the delayed kick-off either, with the game only starting at 3-52 p.m. after a parachute stunt went wrong, and he said: "The game was delayed half an hour and then an hour, but we'll stand up and take the responsibility.
"That had nothing to do with what happened in the game, we lost terrible goals and we never took our clear-cut chances when they were presented.
"With the first goal, Pato should have been there to block it, and he wasn't, but Grezza tried to redeem it, it hits his shin and flies in.
"The second goal should have been cleared twice, it was bobbling about, and I don't know who got a touch on it but it's trundled about five times into the corner.
"The third goal, whether Stephen and Brian haven't been talking, but even then, if Stephen's heading it back, you head it to the side of your goal, not on target.
"They were really soft goals - not someone hitting a 20-yard or 35-yard volley against you.
"But goals are goals. We have to make sure we're scoring them at one end and not leaking soft ones, which we have been doing, so we have to rectify that quickly."
After opening with some inventive football, Coyle was dismayed at the final outcome, and understood some fans' frustrations, booing the team off: "I think when you go and analyse the game, it certainly wasn't a 3-0 scoreline.
"Their keeper's made some good saves, but equally we've not taken our chances and we've thrown goals in at the other end.
"The bottom line is, punters pay their money and they're entitled to their opinion – I would never, ever say otherwise.
"What we have to do is make sure that, as much as we're disappointed, we turn that round and give them something to shout about.
"But that involves hard work, the right type of personnel and the right characters, and that's what we'll look for."
Coyle had no complaints about the endeavour shown, but knows where the problems lie: "There was plenty of effort, but you can not continue to gift goals like that, because all it does is take the wind out of everybody's sails, and that's what happened.
"We had total control of that game; it just looked like a matter of time until we'd score and go on to win it, but we really shot ourselves in the foot.
"Ipswich hadn't threatened in the game, but that's the nature of the Championship – even when you're in control of games there's always a chance that you'll lose a goal on the counter attack.
"But that wasn't the case. The initial goal, we shouldn't have even conceded a corner, and when we did it should have been cleared.
"There were two opportunities for a header, but then the shot should have been blocked, and of course it bounces and the worst bad luck you can get – like the goal last week – a terrible deflection and it flies in the corner.
"I said to the boys if we'd have come in at 0-0 we'd have been pleased, because we had control of the game and had three or four opportunities. But we didn't and found ourselves 2-0 down.
"There's no getting away from it, we controlled the second half. As much as we just needed that spark to get the goal and give us a lift, but never got it.
"The third goal probably summed up the bad luck, or whatever you want to call it."
