Storks aim to build on cup win

HAVING taken a break from Vodkat North West Counties Football League action at the weekend, Padiham will turn their attention back to garnering some league points tomorrow.
Robert Grimes scored from the spot on Saturday for the Storks.
It was the only goal of the game as Padiham brushed aside Premier Division opponents Alsager Town in the extra preliminary round of the FA Cup sponsored by E-ON.
Progress into the domestic game's most glamorous cup would of course, be a great money-spinner for the Padiham club.
But they also need to make sure that they keep pace with the teams in the upper reaches of their division if they are to achieve their ultimate goal of promotion in nine months time.
They hit the road again tomorrow when they make the trip to Bootle (kick-off 3 p.m.).
So far, the Storks have won one and lost one and sit just above Bootle in the nascent league table.
Bootle have only played one league game so far and that was a 3-0 away win against league newcomers Wigan Robin Park.
And by pure coincidence, that game will prove to be a dress rehearsal for the next round of the FA Cup, due to be played at New Bucks Park at the end of next week.
The reserves are also back in action tomorrow when they travel to Ashton Athletic (kick-off 3 p.m.).
And they follow that game with a short trip to play Colne on Wednesday (kick-off 7-45 p.m.).
Padiham Ladies are looking for players to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The team compete in the First Division of the Lancashire FA Womens County League, with training taking place on Wednesday nights in Burnley.
